Friends of the great outdoors will enjoy the attractive tourist project "Ruta de los Volcanes", as it opens up three national parks in the lake district for them.
In the Andes near Temuco, where volcanic forces have created fascinating moon-like landscapes over thousands of years, where remote mountain lakes glisten and thermal wells bubble, where millennial virgin forests have survived with Araucarias and Nothofagae - that's where the Volcano Route starts.
This novel tourism project makes the diverse landscapes between the national parks Conguillío, Huerquehue and Villarrica accessible. Here the earth's colossal powers become highly tangible and one is able to experience the culture of the Pehuenche Indians, who live in these regions to this day, a culture that is intrinsically bound to the earth.
You may walk along virgin paths, wander through primeval forests or conquer a glacier with a guide. You may circumnavigate a volcano on horseback, tuck in a pastoral roast on a spit and ride across lava fields by mountain bike. You can explore silent volcanic lagoons by boat and then relax and get back your strength in hot thermes. Friendly, family-run guesthouses welcome you with well-known Chilean hospitality.
The "Ruta de los Volcanes" has put together various round-trips, which you can combine to match your personal preferences and timetable. Less demanding tours than the ones described here, are also available.
The project is funded by CORFO and the Eurochile Foundation.
