Hotel Santa Cruz Plaza, Colchagua Valley

Breathe in magic culture and tradition

Colchagua Valley is located in the central area of Chile, about two and a half hours south of Santiago, and the village of Santa Cruz is one of the jewels of Chilean tradition. This valley was formed by a river, which flows down from the Andes to the Pacific Ocean, creating unique conditions which generate a very special climate, one particularly favorable for growing vines. If you love Chilean vineyards, golden poplars and rustic country culture, it is indispensable for you to plan a trip through this valley.

The Hotel

Just in front of the central place Plaza de Armas, the Santa Cruz Hotel’s attractive colonial-style construction combines the noble spirit, tradition and history of past generations. With its wooden balconies, hanging flowers and yellow painted adobe walls, the Santa Cruz Hotel invites you to experience something different. Each architectural detail and ornament is a reminder of part of the country's history. Nothing has been left to chance. A collection of antique automobiles, frescoes and colored vitreaux that let in the sunlight are part of the decoration as well as wall paintings and a 10 feet high mastodon, created by Chilean artists. It is not necessary to emphasize the beauty of the hotel’s gardens and terraces.

The hotel has 85 rooms, including 14 suites, one Presidential Suite, King Rooms, Twin Rooms and two handicap accessible rooms overlooking the Plaza de Armas central square and the hotel's interior park. All rooms are equipped with the latest technology and each element has been chosen to provide the highest level of comfort. Room sizes vary from approximately 25 sqm to 35 sqm and are equipped with satellite television, free high speed wireless Internet access and room bar. A Business Center, conference rooms, Events and Convention Center, a beautiful outdoor pool, restaurants, bars and a wine cellar with regional liquors and spirits are part of the hotel’s installations. Medical assistance, tours and shuttle service, laundry service, parking and child care are also available.

The award-winning restaurant “Los Varietales”, distinguished by journalists and food critics on numerous occasions, combines quality and service in a cordial atmosphere. The cuisine is based on contemporary versions of traditional Chilean dishes; a true delight for those who enjoy fine food. Its appealing wine list includes a variety of choice wines produced in the region.

Activities

A particular attraction of Santa Cruz Hotel is its connection to one of the most important Chilean museums, the Museo de Colchagua. This museum – considered the largest private museum in Latin America – has a collection of over 7,000 pieces, from prehistoric times to modernity. Here visitors learn about paleontology, archeology and Pre-Columbian art in Chile and the Americas. In addition, you can admire fancy things like a collection of insects in amber or antiques country carriages.

There is a special section dedicated to the customs of the Chilean rural people, the “Huasos”, and another one dedicated to Chilean religious art. But certainly, besides the valley’s wonderful landscape, the region’s special interests lies in its famous vineyards. Santa Cruz Hotel offers you professionally guided wine tours, a trip with the “Wine Train”, an excursion to the villages on the Pacific coast or to an antique Hacienda that dates from the 18th century and has been completely conserved.

How to get there

Santa Cruz is located 125 miles south of the Chilean capital, Santiago, and only a few miles from the little town San Fernando towards the Pacific coast. You reach it comfortably in three hours taking route 5, the so-called “Panamericana”.
